Mangajin Tapes | ![]() | |
| The tapes are audio reenactments of all of the Japanese manga material in that issue.
The U.S. comics (Far Side, Calvin & Hobbes, Garfield, etc.) are not included and there is no feature material on the tapes. On Side A, each manga story is acted out, one line at a time, by native Japanese-speaking voice actors. Then the translated line is spoken by native English-speaking voice actors. There is a pause between sentences for repeating and pronunciation practice. Long sentences are sometimes broken into 2 or more parts. For listening practice, on Side B entire manga stories are read without pause, first in Japanese, then in English. For some of the longer/wordier issues, part of the line-by-line recording from Side A runs over onto Side B. Total tape length varies from 90 to 110 minutes. If you've ever priced language learning tapes, you'll realize that even at the regular price of $8.50 these tapes are a real bargain. Some of the earlier tapes have a little background noise, and while the Japanese voice actors are top-notch on all the tapes, the English-speaking actors were somewhat amateurish on the earlier tapes. Still, these tapes are an invaluable enhancement to the Mangajin magazine experience. |
